Overview
Through an annual call for proposals, the fund primarily supports travel costs for an exchange between a team at MIT and colleagues at the Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) in Peru.

The fund is for collaborations between faculty and research scientists at MIT and their counterparts at UTEC. Faculty and researchers at other Peruvian research institutions are also eligible to apply as long as the project also involves participants from UTEC.

  • UTEC colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority is given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Peru
  • Proposals should demonstrate complementarity between the two teams

All general Global Seed Funds criteria, application, and evaluation procedures apply.

Purpose:
UAlberta and UTEC recognize the partnerships that exist between the two institutions and wish to further those partnerships through collaborative research in areas of mutual interest within science and Engineering.

The intent of this competitive research collaboration seed fund program is to encourage and catalyze international collaborations between faculty members and students from UAlberta and UTEC in new and innovative research directions that lead to larger-scale and longer-term partnerships funded by external sources.

General Parameters:

  • For the 2023-2024 period, the seed funding program will support one joint research project consisting of US$ 20,000.00 (UTEC team) + CA $ 19,000.00 (UAlberta team).
  • Unallocated funds will not be carried forward to future years.
  • Funds from each institution allocated to successful proposals will stay with the funding institution for use by the institution’s own faculty members; that is, there is no transfer of funds between institutions.
  • Proposals must describe their plan to develop a joint research project or program. Successful proposals must include a description of the project’s objectives, intended outcomes, and how the research will be sustained beyond the life of the seed grant.
  • The Co-Principal Investigators from UAlberta and UTEC will be required to report on project outcomes.
  • Funds may be used to support activities such as: exploratory research initiatives, planning workshops and meetings, mobility of staff, students and postdoctoral fellows, and salaries/stipends of students and research personnel. The UAlberta team should consider in the proposal a visit to UTEC university for the principal investigator and one student.
  • Applicants are encouraged to include early career researchers, opportunities for graduate training and advance the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

The purpose of the study and research period (PEI) is to encourage professors to carry out high-level academic activities that lead to the publication of articles in high-impact indexed specialized journals, as well as university books or texts, or works or developments of high level of each specialty, including the development and registration of intellectual property. Additionally, UTEC encourages the research teacher to develop this academic period in a prestigious external institution, with the aim of strengthening collaboration links and enhancing the teacher’s skills in research and teaching.

Available places: For the 2024 period, UTEC offers 1 place to carry out a 12-month study and research period, or failing that, 2 places of 6 months each.

Application requirements: Any full-time UTEC teacher (TC) in the associate or principal category, who has served as a TC teacher for a minimum period of 7 (seven) continuous years, can apply for a period of study and research. including the year of the call.
For the computation of the 7 (seven) years, the periods in which the teacher, maintaining his affiliation with UTEC, would have used a scholarship or permit, with or without pay, for more than 60 (sixty) days will be discounted. in a row. Periods of absence for health reasons will not be deducted.

1. Objective: This program seeks to contribute to the strategic institutional objective of making UTEC a benchmark university in research, encouraging the development and publication of high-quality scientific papers. In this sense, this program recognizes the achievements and excellence in research of all UTEC collaborators, both those who do not have time assigned to carry out research within their functions, as well as our research professors.

UTEC collaborators who do not have time assigned to carry out research within their functions investigate beyond their regular work; Therefore, the Office of Research recognizes this additional effort. In the same way, the Office of Research recognizes the excellence of our research professors, offering an annual bonus for good research performance to those who obtain the highest marks in scientific production and fundraising for research.

2. Scope: The following collaborators may apply for this recognition:

  • UTEC collaborators who do not have assigned time to carry out research within their functions, such as part-time teachers, full-time teaching teachers, and administrative or support staff, who have not received any financial compensation for the development of research activities. research submitted to this program. Funding of up to S/ 5,000.00 will be granted per proposal, per month. The funding must be used to cover expenses related to the participation of researchers in the conference (registration, tickets, travel expenses, lodging).

The nature of this program is ‘open window’. Applications are evaluated once a month. If more than one application is received in a month, all applications will be evaluated and funding will be granted to the one(s) that achieves the highest score, up to the maximum monthly financeable amount of S/ 5,000.00 or another that available (see number 3 of the guidelines).

We invite you to participate in this new call for the Funding of costs associated with Scientific Publications Call 2023. This program is designed to encourage the publication of scientific articles in indexed journals by UTEC’s researchers through financial support.

The funding can be used to cover expenses associated with the preparation and publication of the manuscript such as: magazine or editorial fees, translation services, academic editing services or final revision of the manuscript in english, among others.

The Office of Research will grant up to S / 3,000.00 per proposal, per month.

The nature of this program is ‘open window’. Applications are evaluated once a month. If  more than one application is received in a month, all applications will be evaluated and funding will be granted to the one(s) that achieves the highest score, up to the maximum monthly financeable amount of S/ 3,000.00 or another that available (see numeral 3 in the guidelines).
